How he became the king of Comedy
CHILDHOOD
Born in London, England on April 16th 1889 Charlie Chaplin was child of Charles Chaplin Sr. and Hannah Chaplin. Charles Chaplin Sr. was a versatile vocalist and actor and Hannah was singer and actor. Charlie Chaplin had the talent in his blood.
His father was a modest on the stage but eventually he drank himself to death. Hannah Chaplin had no source of income other than occasional nursing and dress making and Chaplin Sr. provided no support to his sons.
Because of immense poverty, Chaplin was sent to workhouse when he was seven years old. He reunited with his mother when he was nine.
How his journey as a performer began
He recognised his talent when once his mother was preforming. While she was performing, her voice cracked and the organiser called Chaplin as 'the show must go on ' People enjoyed his performance and that was the beginning of the journey of the King of Comedy. But as it was Chaplin's first performance, it was the last of his mother and her voice never came back.
Difficulties Rising
In September 1898, Chaplin's mom was sent to Asylum for psychosis seemingly brought by malnutrition. By then Chaplin Sr. was a severe alcoholic and he drank himself to death in 1900 at the age of 37. At the age of 14 Chaplin had the responsibility to take his mother to infirmary. For a few days he had no shelter or food until his brother Sydney returned from Navy. Hannah was released from Asylum eight months later but in 1905 her madness returned and never went away. She remained in care until 1928 when she took her last breath. Now the two brothers had to live on themselves. Chaplin has credited his mother for she was the one who encouraged his talent.
Chaplin was then a fully abandoned child, He did several jobs but his main aim was to be an actor.

As he came in film, he became a master in silent comedy.His last nomination was in 1947 for his screenplay of Monsieur Verdoux. As of 2011, six of the films Chaplin starred in have been added to the American National Film Registry: The Immigrant (1917), The Kid (1921), The Gold Rush (1925), City Lights (1931), Modern Times (1936), and The Great Dictator (1940).
The Great Dictator
At that time Hitler was at the peak of his torture and Chaplin decided to do a movie in which he wanted to do a parody of Hitler. But the Jewish directors, producers in U.S. rejected to do the movie because they thought that then Hitler would treat the Jews even in a worse manner. Chaplin said that Hitler couldn't get any worse than he was at that time. So Chaplin put his own money and directed and wrote the movie. This was the first movie in which Chaplin Spoke. Chaplin feared that some countries might ban his movie but Franklin Roosevelt assured Chaplin that his movie won't be banned. So, when the movie was released Hitler once had extolled Chaplin as one of the greatest performers of all time. There were rumors that Hitler was heartbroken to see Chaplin’s impersonation of him. But a person close to Hitler said that Chaplin inspired Hitler's toothbrush moustache. The Great Dictator had a climax speech said by Chaplin which showed how he wanted a Dictator should be.
Chaplin went through many struggles and finally in 1972, He won the Oscar and received the longest standing ovation for 12 minutes. His biopic was too made in 1992 and Robert Downey Jr. played his role. Chaplin said, " People laugh when you are unhappy, people smile when you are happy but people SALUTE you when you make people laugh!!"
